bunnyhop.lol

Changelog

What changed in each version of bunnyhop.lol, newest first. The game is v0.0.7 alpha: new versions come often.

v0.0.7

Minor

Fairness, creators and reliability

  • When a new version of bunnyhop.lol comes out while you have the game open, a quiet note says so with a Reload button. It only shows in the menus (or tells you to press Esc right after a run), never interrupts a run, and reloading brings you back to the same map and style. A run you just finished is uploaded first.
  • Start zones now work like bhoptimer. Your timer starts from the ground inside the start zone: walk out, jump, or drop off a ledge inside it, and a jump counts from takeoff. Flying through the zone in the air no longer starts a run, so mid-air exits at a free 290 u/s and ledge starts are gone. To reset in the zone, land and stand for a moment (or press R). Thanks to Those who So for the report.
  • Runs set before this update keep their times and replays.
  • Verified players now have a blue check next to their name, and YouTube and Twitch creators a small creator mark: in server chat, on the scoreboard and name tags, on leaderboards and ranks, on profiles and in profile link previews. Only bunnyhop.lol hands them out, so nobody can fake one.
  • Put your YouTube, Twitch, X and TikTok on your profile: Profile → Customise → Links. Just your handle (or paste a link to your page); links only ever go to that site. They stay hidden until you turn on Show on my profile.
  • The main menu fits on shorter screens (a 720p screen, or 1080p with display scaling) instead of cutting off the bottom items.
  • Runs on the biggest maps, like bhop_miku_v2 and bhop_dimensions, now verify on the first try, and a run can no longer sit on "waiting for verification" for hours: anything stuck is picked up again within minutes. If a run can't be verified because of a problem on our side, the end-of-run card says so instead of calling it rejected.
  • New to bhop? Learn to bhop is open to everyone: a short hands-on course from the home screen that teaches jumping, strafing and gaining speed, ending in a small graduation run.
  • Runs with key presses no human can make (like switching strafe keys every single tick) are now rejected automatically, and banned players can't submit runs. Cheated records on bhop_bfur and other maps have been removed.

v0.0.6

Auto-strafe, CS-style knife holds and a calmer, juicier UI

  • Auto-strafe, a new style for anyone who doesn't want to tap A and D: in the air, just move the mouse and the game presses A or D for you, whichever way you turn. W does nothing in the air (it only slows you down there). Still your aim and your timing. Pick it in the map browser or the pause menu, or press F3.
  • Auto-strafe is its own mode: it has its own leaderboards, world records and rank, and doesn't count towards your overall rank, XP or map-clear achievements.
  • Auto-strafe runs don't add to the lifetime runs, jumps and time that achievements count, and #1 on the Auto-strafe rank doesn't earn the Style Champion title.
  • Steadier mouse look: the sudden flicks you never made, which some browsers send now and then with a fast mouse (1000 Hz and up, mostly when raw input is off or not supported), are filtered out, and so is the jump that could come right after you click into the game. Settings → Mouse & view → Spike filter is on by default; it only drops a single mouse report far bigger than the ones around it, which no real flick is.
  • Settings → Mouse & view → Show input stats (or ?inputdebug=1 in the address) shows, while you play: whether you have raw input, your mouse's polling rate, every movement, any flick the filter dropped, your frame times and stutters. Screenshot it when you report flicks or freezes; feedback sent with game info attached carries the same numbers.
  • Finishes are simpler: each one is a single design, the same for everyone. No more pattern numbers, fade percentages or Factory New; a finish's name is the whole story.
  • A new set of ten finishes, all our own: Sunset (a warm sky gradient with clouds, at level 20), Ember Glaze (a kiln-fired glaze, for 10,000 jumps), Tiger Lily (petal orange with dark freckles, for a tier 4+ map in another style), Nebula (gas clouds and twinkling stars, your first tier 4 map), Dewdrop Web (a silver web with dew, your first tier 5), Frost (ice and frost ferns, your first tier 6), Heartbeet (a sliced beetroot, for a world record), Four-Leaf (an emerald meadow of clovers, some of them gold, at level 50), plus Garden Fresh and Founder's Gold.
  • Nobody loses a finish: whatever you had equipped becomes its closest new look (Sunset Fade is now Sunset, Kiln Hardened is Ember Glaze, Doppelhop Phases 1, 2 and 4 and Black Pearl are Nebula, Sapphire and Phase 3 are Frost, Ruby is Heartbeet, Gamma Emerald is Four-Leaf, Bramble Web is Dewdrop Web), and anything you had earned the old way stays unlocked.
  • Unlocks, level-ups, achievements and rank-ups each get their own moment: one card at a time at the bottom of the screen, with the reward popping in, your level counting up and confetti for the big ones. They wait until your run is over, so nothing pops up in the middle of a run.
  • Meet the bunny: a little hooded bunny with a carrot now cheers your level-ups, shows off a rare finish, waves when you meet Huddled on a server, naps in an empty Inbox and looks sorry when a map won't load.
  • World and server records on the servers get a banner across the top (confetti for a world record, unless you're mid-run), and so does your own world record.
  • The end-of-run card lands with a little bounce, a new PB stamps onto it, and once your run is verified your points and XP count up and a top-10 place pops.
  • Small messages (link copied, sound off, now playing, stage splits, errors) look the same everywhere, stack neatly instead of covering each other, show ×2 when they repeat and stay while your mouse is over them. On a phone, swipe one away.
  • A new reply in your Inbox shows up as a message with an Open button, and the Inbox count pops when it goes up.
  • With reduced motion turned on in your system, all of this appears without animation.
  • The Loadout now lives in your profile: Profile → Loadout, next to Overview, Runs, Collection and Customise. The pause menu's Loadout button, Settings → Viewmodel and the Equip button on an unlock open it there directly. It's a normal page now with the knife big on the left and the items on the right, not a screen that covers everything.
  • Smooth scrolling and hovering in the profile and the Loadout, even on laptops: the blurred map behind full-screen menus is now a still picture instead of being redrawn and re-blurred every frame.
  • A shorter main menu that fits on every screen: Controls moved into Settings → Keys ("How to bhop and every control"), and Feedback and Inbox sit in one quiet row under your account.
  • The map browser's style picker is one row, so the style, its description and Play fit on screen together, from 720p up.
  • Long player names no longer disappear from leaderboard rows, the music's "now playing" note no longer covers the pause menu, and a sign-in message no longer hides behind an unlock.
  • Calmer menus: section labels are plain sentence-case text instead of small spaced-out capitals.
  • Knives are held the way CS holds them. The Bunnyfly idles open, blade forward like the CS butterfly knife, and its draw is the flip open (it only closes inside its inspect tricks). The Karrotbit hangs below your fist with the hook curving forward and away from you, ring on your index finger; turning it to face you is now how its inspect tricks end. Every knife idles in the same spot with or without the CS:S animations.
  • Better grips in every glove: your fingers wrap the handle and rest on it, with no gaps and no fingers sinking through it (the Carrot Blade's handle used to sit in your fingers rather than your fist), the thumb lies over your fingers below the guard, and the Daikon-tana's guard no longer cuts through your thumb. The Bunnyfly's fingers let go for its flips, and the wrist and sleeve cuff stay together when the hand bends.
  • A lower, smaller viewmodel by default: the knife sits low on the right and covers about as much of the screen as the CS:S knife does, with the blade in full view. If you never changed Settings → Viewmodel (FOV and offsets), you get the new look automatically; if you did, your settings are kept. Classic is the new default; Reset position goes back to it.
  • Five quiet new sounds go with the new messages: a soft tick when an Inbox message pops up, little rising ticks as your points and XP count up, a thump when a new PB stamps onto the end card, a tiny boing when the bunny hops, and a shimmer as a new finish or gloves shine. They play on the UI channel (Settings → Audio), sit well under the game, and never play mid-run.
  • Turn the keys overlay off (or back on) in one click: it's the first switch in Settings → HUD and in the pause menu's new On screen tab, next to switches for speed, timer, splits, sync, FPS, chat, name tags, ghosts and the viewmodel. You can also bind a key to it: Settings → Keys → Show / hide keys overlay (unbound to start with).
  • A shorter Settings page: what most people change comes first, small groups are merged, and what few people touch sits under Advanced at the end of its section (the spike filter and input stats, the rarer HUD elements, viewmodel offsets, bob and sway, channel mutes). Search still finds every setting and opens Advanced when the match is in there. Your settings carry over as they are.
  • Settings search knows more of the words players use (wasd, spike, flicks, loadout, viewmodel offset, hold to restart), and when nothing matches it suggests what you probably meant: Enter takes the suggestion.
  • Name tags over other players on a server can be turned off: Settings → Ghost → Player tags.
  • Fewer things blinking for attention: the "new" dots stay still, the green "live" dots are gone, the hop on the home screen plays once instead of looping, the pause menu shows one "new" mark at a time, and a few labels and key hints that said the same thing twice are gone.
  • The Loadout's first-person view shows your whole fist under the knife again with the new lower viewmodel.

v0.0.5

Minor

Knives, gloves, finishes and a smoother bhop

  • Knives, finishes and gloves. Every knife is yours to pick from the start; finishes and gloves unlock by playing.
  • A new Loadout screen (home menu, pause menu, or your profile under Customise): your hands holding the knife, big and live, with the whole blade in view. Hover any knife, finish or gloves to see it in your hands at once, click to equip. Switch to Close-up to turn the knife in the light by dragging, and Inspect (or F) plays its tricks.
  • Every item in the Loadout shows as itself, a little render of the knife in that finish or your hand in those gloves, with its rarity as a thin colour line. Locked ones say what unlocks them and how close you are, in one line. Arrow keys, Enter, Q / E and a controller all work there.
  • Sunset Fade: a carrot that fades from yellow through pink and purple to blue, unlocked at level 20.
  • More finishes with their own goals: Kiln Hardened for 10,000 jumps (Jackrabbit), Doppelhop Ruby for holding a world record, Doppelhop Sapphire for your first tier 6 map, Tiger Lily, Bramble Web, four Doppelhop phases, Black Pearl and Gamma Hop Emerald.
  • Every finish pattern is your own: no two players' Sunset Fades are quite the same. Customise shows your pattern number and, for Sunset Fade, how far your fade reaches.
  • Six knives next to the carrot: the Karrotbit (a hooked carrot karambit), the Bunnyfly balisong, the Daikon-tana, the Clover Cleaver, the Candy Cane Shiv and the Golden Carrot. More join as they are made.
  • Gloves: seven real styles, each with its own shape and materials, in 22 colourways, on your hands in first person and on your bunny. Sport (padded back panel, vented fingers, velcro strap), Driver (perforated leather with an open back and a snap), Hand Wraps (cloth wraps, bare fingertips, loose tails), Moto (hard knuckle plate, finger guards, long cuff), Specialist (tactical fingerless with a gauntlet cuff), Paw Pads (fuzzy, with toe beans and a paw print) and Garden (canvas with rubber-dipped tips). Stitching, leather grain, cloth weave and worn edges are all drawn live, no textures. Knit, the default, still follows your colourway.
  • Sport · Pandora is now plum and lilac with amber stitching, to sit better next to the bunny. Gloves you already had keep working.
  • Knives in other players' hands are about a third bigger, so you can tell a Karrotbit from a Cleaver at a glance.
  • The carrot grip is tidier: your thumb now rests along the handle under the guard instead of through it, and the Bunnyfly's handles no longer clip your thumb when it flicks open.
  • Other players on the servers see your knife, finish and gloves, and so do your replays and ghosts.
  • Each item has a rarity, from Garden to Golden. Unlocking a finish or gloves shows it off with an Equip button that opens the Loadout, and Settings → Viewmodel shows what you have equipped.
  • Hold the top of the rank board and it shows: overall #1, #2 and #3 wear a gold, silver or bronze crown on their bunny, on the servers, in replays and on their player card. Rank-only colourways (Reigning, Silver Hare, Bronze Hare), frames, trails and titles are yours for as long as you keep the place.
  • Leaderboards come in pages that fit your screen instead of a long scroll: page numbers, ← / → to flip (Page Up / Page Down in the pause menu), Jump to me, and a search to find any player's row. Map boards keep the world record pinned on every page and your own time below it, with each run's gap to the WR.
  • The rank board remembers its page and style in the address, so you can share a page, and shows how many points separate each player from the one above. Open any map's full leaderboard from its preview in the map browser.
  • Landing on a moving block (a door that sinks or slides when you touch it) no longer stops you dead now and then. On bhop_redwood it happened on the first few blocks from the start and sent your next hop out at about 30 u/s. Runs set before this fix keep their times, and their replays and ghosts play back exactly as they were run.
  • Maps no longer get stuck on the loading screen when a download stalls: it retries on its own, and if the map still can't load you get a Retry button instead of an endless wait.
  • The loading screen shows texture download progress, and on a slow connection you can skip the wait with Play without textures.
  • New option in Settings → Keys: Hold to restart. R, B and M then need a half-second hold, so a stray press can't end your run. Off by default.
  • New achievement, Play with the Owner: spend 30 seconds on the same server as Huddled, who made bunnyhop.lol, and it's yours, with the title "Hopped with Huddled". It pops up in game the moment you earn it.
  • Staff tags on the servers: the owner's chat lines and scoreboard row carry an Owner tag, and server staff a Staff tag, so you know who is running the place. Their player cards show it too.

v0.0.4

CS:S movement fixes, fixed maps and a new Settings page

  • Ducking in the air and landing no longer costs you speed: releasing crouch as you land still lets you jump right away, like in CS:S.
  • Player clips now block you like they do in CS:S. Some shortcuts through invisible walls no longer work.
  • Runs set before these movement changes keep their times, and their replays and ghosts play back exactly as they were run.
  • bhop_christmas and bhop_awful3 can be finished: their jump pad and floors are player clips, which you used to fall through. The same fix stops you dropping through the floor at teleport landings on about a dozen more maps.
  • bhop_alt_saimaa's jump pad launches you as high as it does in CS:S, high enough to reach the next level.
  • bhop_sharpie moves from tier 1 to tier 2.
  • New players start on bhop_ambience, a short and friendly tier 1 map, instead of bhop_eazy.
  • Settings is one page now: a sidebar with an icon per section jumps straight to Mouse & view, Crosshair, HUD, Keys, Ghost, Graphics, Viewmodel, Audio or Account, and follows you as you scroll.
  • Search every setting with the words you'd actually use: sens, fov, crouch, autohop, carrot, name tags, fullscreen. Typos are fine. Press / to start typing, Enter jumps to the best match.
  • Every setting explains itself: a short line under its name, and an ⓘ with the details.
  • Take your setup anywhere: Export copies your settings as one code to paste in a chat, or saves them as a file. Import takes either one, tells you what changed, and has Undo.
  • Reset one section, or every setting at once, with a confirmation first.
  • Clearer controls: key binds look like keycaps, switches say On or Off, and every slider has a box for an exact number. Your current settings carry over as they are.
  • Crouching on Ctrl while you jump on the scroll wheel no longer zooms the page, and neither do Ctrl + plus, minus or 0 or a trackpad pinch while you play. Menus still zoom as usual.
  • Jumping on the scroll wheel while crouching on Shift works in every browser.
  • Some screens and glass on maps render correctly instead of as missing textures.
  • On the servers, type rtv, nominate, timeleft or nextmap in chat without the !, like on CS:S servers. "nominate arcane" nominates a map. Only the word on its own counts, so "can we rtv" stays a chat message.
  • kz maps are no longer in the server map rotation, and neither is bhop_caves_original. They are still in the map list to play on your own.

v0.0.3

Major

Real skies, fairer finishes, an inbox

  • The sky hides everything behind it, like in CS:S: no more seeing other stages through the sky on 65 maps.
  • 3D skyboxes, with their fog, on 23 maps: bhop_japan's mountains, bhop_aztec's terrain and more.
  • Runs on bhop_monster_jam and bhop_kz_ravine count again. Their start zone sits above the floor, and those runs used to be rejected.
  • Runs on bhop_ananas, bhop_badges_ausbhop and the bhop_caves_original bonus are no longer rejected as out of sync.
  • End zones with a teleport on top of them finish your run: bhop_badges, bhop_fps_max_sr, bhop_noob and about 20 other maps finish more reliably.
  • Restarting on bhop_japan keeps you in the start zone, the same fix bhoptimer servers use.
  • Refreshed map thumbnails.
  • Send feedback from the game: Feedback on the home screen or in the pause menu, with an optional screenshot.
  • Save your progress with an email address. Sign in with a code or the link we send you.
  • The game goes fullscreen while you play. Turn it off under Settings → Graphics → Display.
  • Ctrl+W (crouch + forward) no longer closes the tab in Chrome and Edge. Other browsers ask before leaving the page mid-run.
  • Esc pauses and resumes reliably. If the browser won't give the mouse back, click to resume.
  • Replays open in first person.
  • An inbox. Replies to your feedback and announcements from bunnyhop.lol arrive in the game.
  • Name tags over other players are hidden behind walls now. A setting shows them through walls again if you prefer.
  • Move the carrot: X, Y and Z offset sliders under Settings → Viewmodel.
  • Menus and panels no longer overlap at small window sizes.
  • This changelog. The version in the corner of the home screen and the pause menu opens it, and bunnyhop.lol/changelog lists every version.

v0.0.2

Minor

Stuck stages and faster loading

  • Fixed nine maps whose stage teleports never fired, so a fall left you stuck with the timer running: bhop_egyptiantemple, bhop_idiosyncrasy, bhop_forresttemple_beta, bhop_fuckfear_fix, bhop_christmas, bhop_japan, bhop_lego2, bhop_omniscient and bhop_strafe_fix.
  • Maps and textures load faster wherever you are: they are now cached close to you.

v0.0.1

Major

bunnyhop.lol launches

  • Classic Counter-Strike: Source bunnyhop in your browser. Real Source movement at 100 tick, nothing to install.
  • About 200 classic bhop maps from GameBanana, tiered T1 to T6, with bonus tracks and stage splits. Browse them by tier or by collection: Iconic, Short, Modern and the Prestige classics.
  • Five styles: Normal (autohop), Legit Scroll, W-Only, Sideways and Half-Sideways. Each has its own personal bests and leaderboards.
  • Verified leaderboards. Every run uploads a tick-exact replay, and the server plays it again before the time counts.
  • A replay of every finished run. Watch it in first person, chase, free, flyby or auto-director cameras, with a speed graph, and export it as an MP4 with the HUD, keys and sound.
  • Ghosts: race your PB, the world record or anyone's run from the leaderboard, with a live delta on the HUD.
  • Online servers, Easy (T1 to T3) and Hard (T4 to T6), with map votes, RTV, nominations, chat and spectating. Runs you finish online are verified like solo runs.
  • Profiles with points, ranks, levels and achievements, and cosmetics to unlock for your player card, ghost and trail.
  • The bunny, our own character, and its carrot blade in first person: Mouse 1 slashes, Mouse 2 stabs, F inspects.
  • Sound effects and music, a HUD you can lay out yourself, and every key rebindable.
  • Play as a guest from the first click. Link Discord to keep your progress on any device.
